Biography
Kim W. Bell is currently serving as "Assistant Professor of Management with Emphasis in Statistics" at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. As a member of Athens State's faculty since 2010, Kim was also recruited by the University Provost to serve in a dual role as Director for Athens State's Center for Lifelong Learning (2015-2019), where she developed and implemented professional development and community engagement opportunities at the city, state, and national level. She has also served as statistician, instructor, and business data consultant in various business sectors such as textile, chemical, government, automotive, transportation & logistics, healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, financial services, insurance, and research technology industries. She has taught biostatistics as a graduate instructor at Auburn University and has also previously worked for a major chemical corporation, where she enjoyed over nine years of experience as the Plant Statistician, Quality Assurance Manager, Quality Assurance Specialist, and Physical Testing Laboratory Manager. Kim has also helped transition numerous companies to the most current quality improvement techniques, including the ISO 9001quality standard, the ISO 14001 environmental standard, Lean Manufacturing for the Manufacturing Floor, Lean Manufacturing for Office, Six Sigma, and Customer Relationship Management. She is a member of the American Society for Quality and of United Who's Who. She holds a Master's Degree in Probability and Statistics from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of North Alabama.
Professor Bell received the Athens State University 'Excellence in Teaching' Award in 2013 and served as the Faculty Advisor for the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business from 2011-2017, where she helped re-establish the Athens State Chapter as a nationally recognized STAR Chapter. She was also named 'Educator of the Year' in 2014 by the University of North Alabama Alumni Association. She is currently the College of Business Advisor for the Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Honor Society at Athens State University. Kim and Julian, her husband of 25 years, have two sons.
Dr. Marylesa Howard has worked at the NNSS for almost 8 years and has held roles in both Scientist and Management roles. Her work has focused on signal and image processing techniques to support diagnostics (measuring devices) that capture information about physics experiments supporting the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration. Her most prestigious award is the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers, bestowed upon her by the White House. Marylesa puts a lot of emphasis on developing collaborative relationships with university professors and students, including co-advising Ph.D. students, leading summer intern research groups, advising Postdocs, etc. She has had two children while being a full-time employee, having weathered that side of balancing motherhood and a professional career.
Katie Nobles has worked in software engineering for 14 years in roles throughout the software lifecycle most often in the missile defense industry. Carrying her experiences as a graduate teaching assistant into her career, she enjoys mentoring junior colleagues. She also participates in employee groups that promote the interests of LGBTQ+ and women employees as well as groups focused on emerging technologies.
