Alumna Jane Chu chairs NEA: 1979 OBU alumna Jane Chu, who literally grew up on the Ouachita campus, was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to chair the National Endowment for the Arts.
Visual arts gain visual update: Rosemary Adams, a 1963 Ouachita graduate and generous donor, came back to campus this month to help dedicate the renovated and expanded Rosemary Gossett Adams Department of Visual Arts.
Makosholos leave lasting legacy: Mike and Mary Makosholo, who broke the color barrier in1962 as Ouachita’s first black students, impacted generations of students as dedicated educators in Zimbabwe and other African nations.

Turner legacy lives on: The lives and careers of Gary and Matt Turner, a talented father-and-son duo remembered as gifted communicators, are being honored with the dedication of Turner Studio in their memory.
Commencement celebration: A total of 357 Ouachitonians transitioned from students to alumni during the university’s 127th spring commencement held May 10 on the lawn of Cone-Bottoms Hall.
Lessons in leadership: Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe delivered the keynote address at this year’s OBU Business Administration Day luncheon hosted by the Hickingbotham School of Business.
Cross-cultural connection: The Nagasaki Cross, a sculpture paying tribute to the memory of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings and Japan’s devastating 2011 earthquake and tsumani, is on display at Ouachita.

Lessons from a Last Lecture: Dr. Tom Auffenberg, who taught for 40 years at Ouachita before his death in August, presented a series of timely and timeless insights in his “Last Lecture” delivered in 2007.
Collections honor Berryman & Greer: Honoring the legacy of longtime professors Jim Berryman and Tom Greer, Riley-Hickingbotham Library recently dedicated special collections featuring the papers of the two former colleagues.
Tiger Tunes tradition: The Ouachita Student Foundation presented its 35th Tiger Tunes this fall. The annual Tunes production has helped OSF raise more than $1 million for student scholarships since 1979.
Celebrating alumni milestones: Ouachita’s annual Alumni Milestone Awards honor noted alumni. This year’s recognitions were presented to leading Ouachitonians from the classes of 1963, ’73, ’83, ’93 and 2003.
Tiger Steel: Musicians & mentors The Tiger Steel drum ensemble, which debuted earlier this year, is Ouachita’s newest musical performance group. Ensemble members also mentor middle school musicians.

Ross donates official papers: U.S. Congressman Mike Ross recently presented Ouachita with his official papers and related material from his political career—including 16,000 digital photos and 300 gigabytes of data files.

“It’s time to come home” Highlights of Homecoming 2012 include senior Hannah Pilcher of Maumelle being crowned Homecoming Queen, the Tigers 32-12 football victory and the EEEs winning Tunes—again!
Happy birthday, Berry! J.E. Berry Chapel, a treasured landmark for half a century, was dedicated in 1962 “to the glory of God, the exaltation of Jesus Christ and the proclamation of the truths of the Holy Bible.”
Arkansas Black Hall of Fame: Army Lt. Col. Yolonda Summons, a 1992 Ouachita graduate, serves as deputy chief of staff at the Pentagon. She was inducted this fall into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.

Launching lifelong explorers: Dr. Barbara Pemberton, associate professor of Christian missions, highlights the diverse opportunities for academic exploration both on the Ouachita campus and around the globe.
Holy Land: Trip of a lifetime: Ouachita students John and Lauren Bacon prayed that God “would send us to Israel in His time.” A few weeks later, they were invited to join Gov. Huckabee on a trip to the Holy Land.
Iraqi tours bring lasting lessons: Dr. Terry DeWitt, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, has served two tours of duty in Iraq. He shares a few of the life lessons learned in a combat zone halfway around the world.
Francis McBeth’s life & legacy: Dr. Francis McBeth, longtime Ouachita professor and world-renowned composer, compiled a rich musical legacy. His said his fondest desire was for people to say, “I liked his music!”
Presidential Service Awards: President Rex Horne presented 125th Anniversary Presidential Service Awards to more than 50 Ouachitonians who completed at least 125 hours of community service during the past year.
