Riley-Hickingbotham Library’s Archives and Special Collections Department preserves the university’s historic yearbooks. The first, titled The Bear, was published in 1907. Beginning in 1909 and continuing to the present time, the yearbook has been called Ouachitonian.
Here's to the Annual of Nineteen and Seven! The work of our staff of eleven. Here's to the State of old Arkansas dear! That gives us the name of "The Bear." Here's to all those in Ouachita's fold! Hurrah for the purple and gold! May other "Bears" grow in the years to come, For this is the very firs one.
To our esteemed and beloved President, Dr. J. W. Conger, and Lady Principal, Miss Annie R. Storts, The Bear is lovingly dedicated by the Class of 1907.
