Amelia Goes to the Ball:
School of Performing Arts
In a laugh-out-loud musical event, this opera recounts the comedic events of the 1920s socialite, Ameilia, as she overcomes obstacles trying to attend the first ball of the social season. Students from the School of Performing Arts performed. The opera was held on November 2 and 5, 2023, in the McBeth Recital Hall.

Ouachita Baptist University Department of Theatre Arts Presents, "Clue," based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn and written by Sandy Rustin. Into The Breeches!
Department of Theatre Arts
Ouachita Baptist University's Department of Theatre Arts presented is fall production of Into the Breeches! This heartwarming tale is about the women of the Oberon Play House putting on the works of Shakespeare while their husbands are off fighting in Europe during World War II. The performances ran from September 25 to 27. Tickets were available to purchase, and the production was open to Ouachita faculty, staff, and students.

Little Women: The Musical

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts presented its spring production of Little Women: The Musical with the opening performance held on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. Performances continued through April 18. The production was open to Ouachita faculty, staff and students with limited seating to allow for social distancing, and streaming tickets are available to purchase for the general public at obu.edu/boxoffice.

A Doll's House

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts presented the play A Doll’s House from Nov. 7 through Nov. 10. The three-act play by Henrik Ibsen and adapted by Nicholas Rudall is a mind-stimulating drama that questions the traditional roles of women and explores the ways in which society perceives them, especially in marriage and motherhood. It also analyzes the emergence of modernism in the 19th century and portrays an unlikely hero for the era: a housewife.

Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind/The Things that Bind Us

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present two student-led productions for the department’s annual Muse Project, including “The Things That Bind Us” and “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind: 30 Plays in 60 Minutes.” Performances were held in Ouachita’s Verser Theatre Feb. 14-17, 2019.
The Muse Project allows students majoring in theatre, musical theatre or theatre education to think deeply and bring their inspiration to life in an original performance. Students submit theatrical experiences or shows they would like to produce, and while usually one proposal is accepted each year, this year’s Muse Project will include two shows.

Sense and Sensibility: A Joint OBU/HSU Production

Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University’s theatre departments performed a joint production adapted from the Jane Austen classic “Sense and Sensibility.” Performances were held from Nov. 8-13, 2018, at Henderson State’s Arkansas Hall Studio Theatre.
The play’s fast-paced, lively adaptation of Jane Austen’s book gives the audience a glimpse into the lives of Marianne and Elinor Dashwood, two young women left to find their way in 18th century England after the death of their father. As they navigate the waters of life and love, they struggle to follow the rules of society and their own hearts.
