Description

We researched whether the personality traits of conscientiousness and openness impacted participants’ choice of academic major. Participants filled out a Google form which consisted of sixty statements from the Big Five Inventory, rating how strongly they agreed or disagreed with the statement. Participants within the School of Performing Arts scored higher in conscientiousness than those within the School of Natural Sciences. Otherwise, no significant differences in openness scores were found among the schools. These results may be useful in helping incoming college students accurately choose their academic major.
