Description

The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of a nutrition and physical activity intervention in improving the body mass index (BMI)-for-age percentiles of rural Arkansas children at risk for childhood obesity. Comparisons were made between a treatment group participating in a six-week nutrition and physical activity intervention and a control group that did not participate in an intervention. Baseline and ending BMI-for-age percentiles were recorded for all children. Results supported the effectiveness of a multicomponent nutrition intervention program and proved from our hypothesis that there was a statistical difference in the treatment groups of the pre- and post- BMIs.
