Abstract
El Greco is considered by some critics to be one of, if not the most famous Spanish painter. Some have even ranked his with the five or six greatest painters of all time. He is often heralded an early expressionist and a forerunner of modern art. Other critics are not as loud in their acclaim, but almost all would acknowledge that he is a great, original religious painter and certainly worthy of study.
