Abstract

Irene Branum was a missionary nurse who served from 1951 to 1986 in Korea (primarily) and South China. She was a member of the Baptist Nursing Fellowship and received citations from Korean officials for her devotion to the people of Korea. Branum was born August 18, 1917, and died on September 30, 2009, in Hazen, Arkansas.

Irene Branum’s diaries depicting her life as a missionary comprise a major portion of this collection. Correspondence, hymnals in Chinese and Korean, and books explaining the traditions of the Far East also contained in the collection. Artifacts and memorabilia include Chinese paper dolls, ancient funeral and wedding scrolls, parchment water colors, Korean children’s shoes, and a kimono.
