Abstract

In the 1890s, literary societies served as centerpieces of social and academic life at the two colleges in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Gamma Sigma Literary Society for men was at Henderson Brown College (now Henderson State University). Other Henderson organizations in the early years included the Upsilon Phi and Philomathean societies for women, and the Garland Literary Society for men. Across the ravine, Ouachita Baptist College had Athenian, Hermesian, and Philomathean societies for men, and Alpha Kappa, Corinnean, and Polymnian for women.

This ledger contains minutes and records of the Gamma Sigma Literary Society of Henderson-Brown College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
